Why would you trash your wedding dress?!?! Are you completely insane???? It will be ruined! You’re just wasting money! And you’ll never be able to wear the dress again!…. are just some of the things you may have heard (or said to yourself) when you started considering a trash the dress photo session.
So instead of telling you why you should never trash your wedding dress, let’s look at some reasons why you should!
Why Would You Trash Your Wedding Dress?
Well… there may be a million different reasons that you can think of, but for me, the answer is simple: Because it’s fun!
You get to wear your wedding dress again!! And what could be better than that?! You obviously bought that dress for a reason. And it makes you look damn sexy! So why pack it away when you can put it on one more time?
Your wedding day is over, but that doesn’t mean the fun has to stop. You can have your cake and eat it too. Take the opportunity to meet with your photographer once more. Just you and your new husband. Alone together in pure “just-married” bliss. Away from your bridal party, your family, and your rowdy guests. And far away from any stress, nervousness, or anxiety that surrounded your wedding day.
It’s a chance for the two of you to celebrate the huge accomplishment that is planning a successful destination wedding. And to get a little messy in the process 😉
But just because you get a little messy, it doesn’t mean that your dress will actually be “trashed”.
Trashed ≠ Destroyed
It’s a common misconception that a trash the dress photoshoot means that your wedding dress will get completely destroyed. You don’t have to destroy your wedding dress unless you absolutely want to (and if that’s the case, try out some vibrant paint or powder to add a bright pop of color to your photos!)
But most brides don’t want to ruin their dresses. And you don’t have to either. A dip in the pool or the ocean is not going to ruin your wedding dress. Actually, it’s quite the opposite! Our brides often say that their wedding dresses were cleaner after going in the water. It had washed away all the sand and dirt that had been clinging on from the wedding day.
Yes, you’ll need to dry out your wedding dress. And you’ll still need to get your dress cleaned after the photoshoot…. But you would need to do that after the wedding anyway. So don’t worry about it. Jump in the water and smile for the camera!
Cassie & Daniel’s Trash The Dress Session
In case you need a little more convincing, I’m going to show you some photos from a trash the dress photo session. So let me tell you about the couple!
Cassie and Daniel got married at one of our all-time favorite off-resort wedding venues, Jellyfish Restaurant! Two days later, they had their trash the dress photoshoot at a secluded beach in Punta Cana. And it was amazing!
They were all smiles. The kind that can’t be faked. And when they rolled around in the sand and genuinely got to play in the water, you could feel the joy radiating from their souls. It’s that right there! That is the reason you have to have a trash the dress photo session. That is why I want you to trash your wedding dress!!
