Sanctuary Cap Cana is one of my favorite resorts in Punta Cana. It has an older, colonial look and feel that is completely unique to the area. You won’t find any other resorts like this one. Plus, the location right on the beach means that every spot has an amazing view!
Did I mention yet that their weddings are always spectacular!? I guess I’m getting ahead of myself. Let me tell you about the resort first, and then I’ll tell you all about Megan and Eric’s intimate wedding at Sanctuary Cap Cana. Maybe I’ll even show you a photo or two 😉
Where is Cap Cana?
Cap Cana is a private gated community in Punta Cana about 15 minutes from Punta Cana International Airport. It is a more upscale community and is considered one of the most expensive in the area. It’s also one of the safest. And it’s absolutely beautiful! The grounds are always neatly kept, showing off beautiful palm trees, vibrant flowers, and lush greenery. From the moment you enter the gates, you’ll feel like you’ve arrived in a tropical paradise.
Then, once you get to the beach, you’ll be greeted by the softest white sand you can imagine and gorgeous turquoise blue water. It’s just dazzling!
Overall, Cap Cana is a pretty quiet community. The beach is beautiful, but you won’t encounter the same buzz that you’ll find on Bavaro Beach. There aren’t many beach vendors, souvenir shops, or offered activities like parasailing and water sports. You’ll pretty much be in your own little bubble.
Aside from the amazing beaches, Cap Cana is home to the Punta Espada Golf Club which is considered one of the best golf courses in all of the Caribbean! (It’s also a dream location for a destination wedding. Just check out Isaura and Daniel’s wedding photos.)
Walk around the Cap Cana Marina where you’ll find a few high-end boutiques, restaurants, and bars. And don’t miss the chance to ogle over all of the gorgeous yachts.
If you’re looking for a quiet, tranquil vacation, then this will a good place for you. If you’re looking for a more energetic holiday, then I wouldn’t recommend staying in this area. Of course, every resort is a little bit different, so let me tell you about what it’s like to stay at Sanctuary Cap Cana.
What It’s Like to Stay at Sanctuary Cap Cana
The first thing you’ll notice about this resort is the architecture. The whole thing looks like a castle! You’ll feel like you’ve stepped back into old Spanish Colonial times. And in the most luxurious way.
The Rooms
You can choose to stay in the castle, in the Colonial section (main buildings), or in a private villa. They are all completely different styles with different decor so it really depends on your own personal preference. I’d say the castle offers a little more rustic experience but I loved that! Book the swim-up suite for direct access to the saltwater pool. It’s beautiful! And really, who doesn’t want to stay in a castle?
No matter where you choose, all of the rooms are gorgeous, clean, and spacious. Not to mention the amazing ocean views!
The Atmosphere
This is a very calm and quiet adults-only resort. It has a more upscale feel that is perfect for an intimate wedding or a romantic getaway. Even though there is a swim-up bar and they have a more upbeat vibe there, you won’t find the loud and crazy “pool party” atmosphere that you may experience at other resorts in Punta Cana.
They do offer a few daily pool activities and basic nighttime entertainment, but nothing overly extravagant. If you’re looking for a laidback, peaceful vacation, then this is the perfect place for you.
Customer Service
I would say one of the best things about this resort is their customer service. And that’s not something I usually say about resorts in the Dominican Republic. The staff members are friendly and courteous. Always willing to help. And going above and beyond to make you feel at home. Even with the new covid protocols, the staff has been incredible!
The Location
Like I mentioned above, Sanctuary Cap Cana is located in the little secluded bubble of Cap Cana. The beach is gorgeous, but it’s pretty small. (You can’t go walking for miles.) Although I would recommend the beach restaurant next door, Little John, for a tasty meal off the resort. Otherwise, there is not much else to do within walking distance. If you plan on exploring the island, be sure to book excursions or rent a car to drive around. There are a lot of amazing things to do in Punta Cana.
Weddings at Sanctuary Cap Cana
We love shooting weddings at Sanctuary Cap Cana. They are always intimate, romantic, and oh so beautiful! The views are simply breathtaking! I mean, who doesn’t want to say I Do with the sparkling blue ocean in the background. That’s what dreams are made of!
At Sanctuary Cap Cana, you can get married right on the beach with your toes in the sand, or choose the gardens where you’ll still have a stunning view, but you’ll be in the grass instead of on the sand. For all those brides who don’t like the sand, this will be music to your ears.
If neither of those sounds quite right to you, you can choose to get married at the wedding palapa! It is fully covered to offer you and your guests some shade during the ceremony. That’s what I would recommend if you’re getting married in the summer in Punta Cana. Plus, there’s a great breeze flowing through the palapa since it’s floating over the ocean. It’s absolutely gorgeous!
If you’re considering Sanctuary Cap Cana for your wedding day, take advantage of their Big Day Preview promotion. They’ll offer discounted rates for you to stay at the resort, tour the wedding venues, and meet with all of their wedding vendors. Not to mention, you’ll get to taste their menu. Sounds pretty great, right?
Megan and Eric’s Wedding at Sanctuary Cap Cana
Intimate weddings are some of my favorite affairs because all of the focus is on the couple. They only invite their closest family members and a few friends so it’s all about spending quality time together. There aren’t a lot of distractions, and everyone is truly there for the same reason: to celebrate love!
Megan and Eric’s wedding was one of these intimate events. They had 22 guests, including three bridesmaids and two groomsmen, and it was simply perfect. Everyone had an amazing time celebrating these two love birds!
Megan and Eric have that special kind of love that rubs off on everyone around them. They’re goofy and adorable together. And it seemed like they were always having fun! Having the time of their lives. And why shouldn’t they be? It was their wedding day after all!
Just take a look at some of their wedding photos below:
