Are you having some trouble deciding which resort to get married at in Punta Cana? With hundreds of all-inclusive resorts to choose from, it can feel a little overwhelming. You know you want a beautiful beach, nice hotel rooms, and good food. But this is something you’ll find pretty easily in Punta Cana.
So how do you know if you’re choosing a great resort for your wedding? For one of the biggest days of your life?
Well, hopefully, I can make the process easier by showing you a real-life Catalonia Royal Bavaro wedding. I’ll tell you a little bit about the resort too and then you can decide for yourself if this is the right place for you.
Catalonia Royal Bavaro Resort
This is one of the resorts in Punta Cana that often gets overlooked. You really don’t hear too much about it because a lot of the bigger resorts get more attention. But I think Catalonia Royal Bavaro deserves a little recognition. It’s a great resort!
Located in Cabeza de Toro, you’ll be in a popular resort area, but it doesn’t get quite as crowded as Bavaro Beach.
This resort isn’t too big – you can walk everywhere within a few minutes.
And let me tell you:
The beach is breathtaking! It’s lined with palm trees so you can always find a shady spot. Plus, it’s the perfect place for your wedding portraits!
If you come during the summer months (May-August) expect more seaweed than usual, but the resort usually does a nice job of keeping it clean. You’ll probably spend most of your time at the pool instead. But really, who doesn’t want to hang out at the swim-up bar?
Catalonia Royal Bavaro is an adults-only resort, and you’re guaranteed to meet lots of fun, friendly people during your stay. That includes the staff as they were always very helpful and accommodating.
The rooms are spacious and clean, albeit a little outdated with dark, bulky furniture.
If you’re looking for a luxurious, modern resort, this is not the best place for you. But if you prefer a nice, quaint, Caribbean-style resort, you’ll love this property.
Catalonia Royal Bavaro Weddings
I’m always pleasantly surprised by the weddings we shoot at Catalonia Royal Bavaro. They’re always beautiful!
The wedding gazebo has perfect lighting in the afternoon, and the gardens are heavenly! There are so many wonderful places to take photos throughout the property. And as photographers, you know that’s our favorite thing about a place!
They also have a very talented wedding-planning team. Evelyn Reyes is an amazing wedding planner, and she’s always a joy to work with. I know it’s not easy to trust someone that you’ve never met in person before, but you really can trust Evelyn with your wedding vision.
From the simplest decor to the most elaborate events, she can handle it all. She will help bring your dreams to life.
Let’s discuss Nicole and Cory’s wedding day and then I’ll show you some photos from their event.
Nicole and Cory’s Catalonia Royal Bavaro Wedding
What a beautiful couple! These two were made for each other. And their wedding day reflected their love for one another just perfectly. They got married at the beach gazebo and it was spectacular!
They embraced the Caribbean atmosphere using bright, tropical flowers, giant palm leaves, and pineapples for their wedding decor. Simple, yet beautiful. Nature is the best decor, after all. Especially when you’re in Punta Cana!
This wedding was incredibly unique. Since they had their wedding ceremony at 2 pm (I’ll tell you more about this in the section down below) their schedule for the day looked a little different than most of our resort weddings. I mean, no one wants to eat dinner at 3 pm, right? Their reception wouldn’t be starting until 6 pm so we had lots of time in between.
What does that mean?
Well… we had extra time for photos! Without having to stress about time or rush at all. We got tons of portraits with the family, the wedding party, and last but certainly not least, with the happy couple.
Their honored guests even gave speeches right at the beach gazebo. It all worked out flawlessly.
But why did they have their ceremony at 2pm? Didn’t they read The Best Time for a Wedding Ceremony in Punta Cana?
Keep reading to find out.
Civil Wedding Ceremony
The most important thing for Nicole and Cory on their wedding day was to get married legally. That’s pretty important, right? Well, truthfully, most couples get married back home and have a symbolic ceremony in Punta Cana.
But Nicole and Cory decided to do things differently. They wanted to go the legal route. So they had their civil ceremony in Punta Cana. (Want to learn about the process? Check out Everything you Need to Know for a Civil Ceremony in Punta Cana.)
The hard part is:
When you have a civil ceremony at a resort, you don’t get to choose your ceremony time. Your timing is fully dependent on when the judge is available to officiate your ceremony. That means it could be early in the morning or smack dab in the middle of the day.
That’s how it happened for these two. The only time the judge could come was at 2 pm. That’s when the sun is at its strongest. It’s hot. Humid. And really bright!
The good news is:
Colors are beautiful during this time of day. Bright and vibrant. Which translates to beautiful colors for their wedding photos.
So although it was hot (and they had to make some adjustments to their schedule), it all ended up working out beautifully!
Just take a look down below to see what I mean!
