Sophia and Alexander had an amazing Altos de Chavon wedding. If you’ve never heard of Altos de Chavon, let me tell you, it is one of the most beautiful villages in the Dominican Republic! We LOVE LOVE LOVE taking photos here!!
Local artisans hand-crafted every detail to make it look like a 16th-century replica of a Mediterranean village. So basically, it looks like it’s out of a fairytale. Plus, it sits atop the Chavon River so the views are absolutely spectacular! The whole place is seriously magical!!
Where is Altos de Chavon?
Altos de Chavon is located in Casa de Campo about an hour away from the Punta Cana Airport. It’s a bit of a drive if you’re not going straight from the airport, but once you get there, you’ll see that it’s worth it!
We love photographing weddings on the white sandy beaches of Punta Cana, but it’s always nice to get a change of scenery and do something different. Although our name is Punta Cana Photographer, we love traveling for weddings! And when we can travel to a wedding location like this one, it’s even better!
Things To Do in Altos de Chavon
This little village is filled with culture, art, music, and faith. It has become an epicenter of creativity and cultural exchange among residents, tourists, and working artists alike. Art studios, boutique shops, restaurants, and bars are only a few of the amazing things that this place has to offer.
First, you’ll want to check out the 5,000-seat amphitheater. It’s modeled in a traditional Grecian style and boasts performances from Frank Sinatra, Andrea Bocelli, Sting, Elton John, and so many other impressive artists!
If you’re more into history, head over to the archaeological museum where you’ll see a remarkable collection of indigenous artifacts that help piece together the rich history of the Dominican Republic. Even if you’re not a history buff, I highly recommend learning about the culture and history of the DR if you’re coming here on vacation. It will truly help you appreciate your time here even more!
Next, take a stroll through the St. Stanislaus Church located right in the heart of Altos de Chavon. They hold weekly masses and also conduct Catholic wedding ceremonies. Even if you’re not religious, I recommend checking it out! You won’t want to miss the beautiful stone architecture.
Actually, the stonework throughout the whole village is incredible! It really does feel like you’ve traveled back in time to the 16th-century.
Sophia & Alexander’s Wedding Trailer
To be honest, this was our first Altos de Chavon wedding. We have shot a ton of photoshoots here, but weddings are a different story. When Sophia reached out to us, we jumped at the chance to capture her wedding. They held their wedding ceremony within Altos de Chavon and then went to the Dye Fore Terrace for the reception, which showcased a beautiful view of the golf course.
Take a look at their wedding trailer to see just how magical their wedding was.
