Today I’m reminiscing on a beautiful wedding in Santo Domingo to celebrate the one year anniversary of my dear friends, Corrie and Francesco.

It’s not often that we shoot a wedding in Santo Domingo. Even though it’s a charming city and it’s only two and a half hours from Punta Cana, the “big city” lifestyle is far from the laidback vibes that we’re used to. But when two of our closest friends were getting married, we had to make the trip to the capital. And we’re glad that we did!!

Meet Corrie & Francesco

Corrie and Francesco are two of my favorite people in the Dominican Republic! Francesco is Dominican and Italian, and he was the first friend I made when I moved to this country years ago. He used to talk about this freckly Canadian girl that he couldn’t get out of his head. “She’s just so beautiful!” he would tell me. “And so cool!”

When I finally got to meet Corrie, everything Francesco had said about her was true. She is truly a beautiful person – inside and out. They were so in love then, and they are even more in love now! Even after a whole year of marriage. These two are perfect together!

In honor of their one year anniversary, let me tell you about their wedding day.

Corrie & Francesco’s Wedding in Santo Domingo

Corrie and Francesco’s wedding in Santo Domingo was very different than the weddings we’re used to shooting in Punta Cana. Far from the sunny skies and white sand beaches. This time we were in the capital. In a country club. At night. And for this reason, it was even more special to us. It was one-of-a-kind!

They started getting ready at the Hotel W&P Santo Domingo. Afterward, we all headed over to their wedding venue: the Santo Domingo Country Club.

And oh man, it was a gorgeous venue! Christmas was just around the corner so all the holiday decorations were up and sparkling. Trees were covered with lights and shining bright. Even a giant Christmas tree stood tall just outside the salon where the ceremony would be held.

Their wedding ceremony was just as beautiful! It began at 6:30pm, which is quite late compared to most destination weddings, but since they had an indoor ceremony, it worked out just fine.

They said their vows, and Corrie brought everyone to tears when she started speaking Spanish. (You remember she’s from Canada, right? So that was a big deal!)

They said I do. They kissed! And then, they were married!!!

Do you want to know the best part? They were surrounded by family and friends from all over the world! Honestly, what could be better than that?

Nighttime Wedding Ceremony Lighting

Okay, before I show you their wedding photos, let me just take a moment to discuss the importance of lighting and illumination at a nighttime wedding ceremony. If you’re having a beach wedding, I usually recommend scheduling your ceremony about 2 hours before the sun sets so you have enough time to take photos with natural light before it gets dark.

But if you’re considering having your wedding ceremony at night, that’s a whole other ball game. It’s wonderful!! I love the non-traditional approach, and I’d say go for it!

Just remember that it’s going to be dark. So make sure you have the proper lighting to illuminate your ceremony.

Lighting is everything! It sets the ambiance and mood. And it’s especially important when it comes to photography.

So ensure that your venue has good illumination. Whether it’s string lights, chandeliers, lanterns, candles, mason jar lamps, you name it. Whatever you prefer. Just try to stay away from anything fluorescent as that’ll put a damper on the romantic vibes.

Alright now that I’ve said my piece, let’s get back to those romantic vibes. Happy Anniversary Corrie & Francesco!!
