There’s one thing that makes me absolutely overjoyed and that’s celebrating love! I LOVE love. You probably could have guessed that already though, right? I spend most of my days writing about beautiful couples getting married on the beaches in Punta Cana. And the other days… Well, those are spent chatting with couples and families just like yours. Preparing for your wedding day. Or if you’re not quite there yet, then organizing a couple’s photoshoot in Macao Beach. Sometimes even planning your surprise proposal. Whatever the situation, love is always at the core of every conversation.
That’s why when Jacob contacted me to set up a couple’s photoshoot for him and his boyfriend, I jumped at the opportunity! Of course we wanted to capture their love!! And now I can’t help myself from sharing that love with you. Some things are just too good… They deserve to be shared!
Here’s a little sneak-peak from their couple’s photoshoot in Macao Beach. Then I’ll give you a little background on the beach and dive into their photoshoot so you can plan your own amazing shoot in Punta Cana.
Macao Beach in Punta Cana
I’m obsessed with Macao Beach! Maybe you’ve read about it before. Like here. Or here. But maybe this is your first time hearing about it. That’s perfectly okay too!
I’ll fill you in:
This is one of the most beautiful beaches in Punta Cana! It’s absolutely gorgeous!
It’s off the beaten path and about 20 minutes from most resorts in Bavaro and Uvero Alto. But don’t worry about leaving your resort. This beach is completely safe! (Most places in Punta Cana are.) It’s a popular tourist beach, and you’ll feel right at home here. That is if your home were in an amazing tropical paradise.
My favorite part:
There are so many different places to take photos. And this is just what we strive for at a photoshoot. Lots of different backgrounds. Distinct lighting. Beautiful scenery. What else could you ask for?
Macao Beach has it all! Gorgeous turquoise water. A long, stretching shoreline. Towering palm trees. Lush greenery. Rocky cliffs. Fishing boats. Did I forget anything? Probably… But trust me, almost anything you have in mind for your beach photoshoot, you’ll find it here.
Afternoon Photoshoots in Punta Cana
The late afternoon is one of the best times for a couple’s photoshoot in Macao Beach. The sun is getting ready to set, and the lighting is soft and romantic. It’s the golden hour. When the warm sunlight turns magical.
There’s more indirect light which means softer contours and less contrast. No harsh shadows. No squinty eyes.
In Punta Cana, this means the temperatures are cooling off too. It’s not quite as hot as earlier in the afternoon so you’re less likely to have sweat dripping down your forehead or soaking through your shirt. Basically, it’s the perfect time for a couple’s photoshoot. After all, you want to capture all that romance in the air.
Now here’s the only downside:
In the late afternoon, the water won’t be that sparkling blue color you see in the magazines. You know, those bright, tropical colors. The ones that scream beach vacation in the Dominican Republic. If you’re looking for those brighter, vibrant colors, you’ll want to book early in the morning instead.
Which do you prefer? The choice is yours. Either way, you’re going to get beautiful photographs. If you’re leaning towards that soft, romantic lighting, you may be asking…
What time do I need to book?
Well, this will change depending on the time of year. The sun sets earlier in the winter months (November-February) and later in the summertime (May-September). Typically a pick-up time about 2 hours before sunset is ideal. That will give us enough time to get to the beach and to get plenty of photos with natural light before the sun goes down.

Couple’s Photoshoot in Macao Beach – Jacob & Nick
Jacob and Nick are the most gorgeous couple. They both seriously look like models!
This was such a romantic photoshoot. You could feel their love for each other. But it wasn’t all serious. Of course, we had to have some fun, too! After all, that’s what photoshoots are all about.
Jacob and Nick were staying at Grand Palladium so we picked them up at 5pm and took them to Macao Beach for the photoshoot. It’s about a 25-minute drive, so when we arrived, the lighting was almost perfect. As we continued to take photos, the lighting only got better and better.
A lot of couples worry about the rain when booking a photoshoot, but it’s really nothing to stress about. The clouds soften the light from the sun and actually help to create those warm, romantic colors.
Don’t believe me?
Just take a moment to scroll through the photos below.
Do you see what I mean? Amazing lighting. A beautiful beach. And don’t forget the most important part: the gorgeous couple.
It doesn’t take much more than that to have a successful photoshoot in Macao Beach.
