If you have never heard of Altos de Chavon you have no idea what you are missing! This cultural center for residents, tourists and artists is not only a place where you can enjoy a lovely dinner or study at the Art School, it just happens to look like it came out from a fairy tale!

Altos de Chavon: A 16th Century Village Replica

When you see this amazing place you might think it is an old village, but it is actually a replica! Designed and built in 1976, it has become one of the most popular attractions in this area of the Dominican Republic. It is located inside Casa de Campo and overlooking the Chavon River, with some of the most beautiful views we have ever seen.

It is a replica of a Mediterranean Village so if at some point you find yourself walking along its cobblestone streets you might feel like you are in a different country. Besides the magnificent St Stanislaus Church, you can also find Art Galleries, an archeological museum, an amphitheater, and it is also home to the Altos de Chavon School of Design.

All of this is great to know if you are visiting La Romana area because you will definitely have to stop and see it. Maybe you are vacationing in Casa de Campo. But if you are not, then we want to tell you, get a photoshoot done in this place! It is beyond incredible and unique.

Photoshoots at Altos de Chavon

Ok, so we won’t lie, it is a bit of a drive if you are staying in an all-inclusive resort in Punta Cana. Even more so if you are staying in the Uvero Alto area, but the trip is so worth it!
If you are staying in Bayahibe or La Romana then it won’t be longer than 20 minutes before you get there, but for the rest, it can take about 3 hours round trip.

Because it is a popular place there is a fee that has to be paid to take photos inside. This probably won’t surprise you, resorts and other locations in this area all do the same.
Their website has the information on pricing and it is listed as a 275 US dollar fee, but don’t worry! We are locals and we can get a better deal so your budget doesn’t go up the clouds!

We particularly recommend having a photoshoot here if you celebrated your wedding on the beach. It is a different scenery, very romantic and with amazing backdrops to complement your beach wedding photos.
Just have a look at Brittany and Pat’s photos to see what we are talking about!
