Is It Safe to Leave the Resort in Punta Cana?
Yes!
Punta Cana is a safe place, and I definitely recommend that you leave the resort at least once on your upcoming vacation. Whether you’re walking along the beach, adventuring on an excursion, or planning a photoshoot in Punta Cana, you’re sure to have a wonderful time off the resort.
There is so much to do in Punta Cana and there are so many fun places to see that it’s definitely worth it to explore a little bit of the island.
Can I Take Photos at My Resort?
In most cases, yes, but it doesn’t usually make sense unless you have a big group of people or an event that you want to photograph. For small families or couples, I almost always recommend leaving the resort for a photoshoot. Why?
Well, here’s where things get a little tricky:
Unfortunately, the resorts in Punta Cana are pretty strict about allowing outside vendors onto the property. Some resorts will charge you a day pass to bring in an outside photographer, and the price for that can range from around $100-$250. Others will charge a vendor fee instead, which can range from $300-$1000+. That’s a lot of extra money to pay simply for an hour-long photo session.
Sadly, there are even resorts in Punta Cana that don’t allow outside photographers or vendors at all. They basically do this to ensure you book the vendors on the resort instead… But usually, you’ll be sacrificing a bit on quality.
If you’re considering bringing an outside photographer onto the resort, I definitely recommend checking with the resort directly before you book to confirm their pricing and policies. This way you can avoid any issues on the day of the photoshoot.
The Best Time for a Photoshoot in Punta Cana
Let’s keep it simple here:
- If you like bright and vibrant photos, then I’d recommend an early morning photoshoot.
- If you prefer soft, more romantic lighting, then I’d recommend the late afternoon instead.
Remember, the sun doesn’t set over the ocean in Punta Cana (we’re on the Eastern tip of the island), so while you can schedule a photoshoot at sunset, you’re not going to have the sun in the background of your photos.

What to Wear to a Photoshoot in Punta Cana
If you’re worried about what to wear, fear no more. Thankfully, we’ve written an entire article just for you. But before you jump over there, here are a few highlights:
- Wear something comfortable. If you’re uncomfortable or don’t feel confident in your outfit, that will show in the photos.
- Consider the weather. It’s hot and humid in Punta Cana! You don’t want heavy clothing sticking to you or dark sweat marks showing through.
- Coordinate outfits with your partner and/or family. You don’t need to match perfectly, but make sure you look good together.
- Avoid logos, characters, and branding. Plain outfits or patterns will look much better.
When it comes to colors, you can never go wrong with white, blue, or khaki on the beach. Bright colors that stand out like red or coral can also look great. To be honest, you don’t need to stress too much about the colors of your clothing since pretty much every color can work if it’s matched appropriately.
What to Bring to a Photoshoot
Honestly, you don’t need much. The beach is beautiful all on its own, so you just need to show up, looking nice.
If you want to bring a second outfit, go for it! If you’re planning on jumping in the water, then you may want to bring a towel and a change of clothes.
What about extra props? Feel free to bring a blanket, a hat, accessories, flowers, champagne, or whatever you feel will add a little something extra to your photos. If you’re celebrating a special occasion like an engagement, pregnancy announcement, or anniversary, then you might want to bring something special and unique. But you definitely don’t have to bring anything at all! It’s totally up to you.
What to Expect During the Photoshoot
A photoshoot should be an exciting and enjoyable experience, so be ready to let loose and have some fun. A typical beach photoshoot lasts for about an hour which is plenty of time to get photos in different locations with different poses and backgrounds. We love to capture a wide variety of photos so you’re able to choose your favorites to print and frame back home.
On the day of the photoshoot:
The photographer will meet you at your resort to pick you up and take you to a beautiful beach nearby. Depending on the resort’s location and the time of year, they’ll decide the best beach to go to so you get the best photos possible. Usually, a beautiful beach is around 20-25 minutes driving from your resort, but some beaches are only 5-10 minutes away.
Don’t worry:
We’ll go over all the details before you book with us so you know exactly what to expect from your session.
Once you arrive at the beach, the photographer will walk with you and will start capturing photos right away. They’ll tell you what to do and when so there’s no need to plan out your poses ahead of time. We like to capture a good mix of candid and posed photos – so you just need to be yourself.
Play in the water, run along the sand, and enjoy the beautiful scenery around you. Your photographer will be there to capture all of the special moments and will create beautiful photos that you’ll treasure for years to come.
