Where are you from, and when did you move to Punta Cana?
I am from Ontario, Canada. I moved to Punta Cana in November 2012 and have been here ever since.
Why did you move to Punta Cana?
I knew I wanted to move my business somewhere tropical. So I was deciding between here, Jamaica, and Mexico. I just loved the vibe in Punta Cana – or at least what I found online. I had actually never been here before… But I heard a lot of great things, and Punta Cana seemed like a chill spot.
I also spent a lot of time researching photographers and other wedding vendors, and I loved the talent here! Not to mention, there were not really any freelance makeup artists at the time, so I figured it would be the perfect opportunity for me to launch a successful business.
How long have you been a hair and makeup artist?
Oh man… I’ve been doing hair and makeup since I was 19. So I guess that’s been what? 16 years. Yeah! 16 going on 17.
How long have you been in the wedding industry?
I jumped right into the wedding industry when I started doing hair and makeup. I worked at a hair salon that was well-known for weddings so we had bridal parties in every single weekend.
Right away, I found that I loved working with wedding parties. I loved being around all the ladies, getting glammed up together. I loved their energy! Everyone was always in a good mood, popping champagne, celebrating. I knew this was the right place for me.
How do you feel about weddings, in general?
I’m a romantic. I love LOVE. So of course, I love the idea of weddings. They’re all about getting dressed up, having a good time, and celebrating love! What could be better than that?
How would you describe your hair/makeup style?
Soft. Dreamy. Romantic.
I like enhancing my clients’ natural beauty – not completely altering their appearance. Especially for a wedding. I would never want a bride to walk down the aisle and her groom to be like “um… who are you?”
Nearly all of my brides are on the more natural side. I can do a flashy glam look here and there, but for the most part, my brides and bridesmaids have a pattern of soft, bronzed, and beachy. Golden goddesses.
Do you only work in Punta Cana? Or throughout the DR?
Typically, I only work in Punta Cana. Before covid, my schedule was always packed which didn’t allow me to work anywhere else around the island. Now that things have slowed down, I am more open to traveling for weddings.
I’ve actually already started booking a few brides on the north coast, in Las Terrenas and Cabarete.
Moving forward, there are definitely more possibilities for me to work outside of Punta Cana. Especially at the brand new resorts in Miches, which aren’t too far away. I’m very excited about that opportunity!
How far in advance should a bride book you as their hair and makeup artist?
I typically only open my schedule up about one year in advance. It’s best to book 6-12 months before your wedding date.
What resources do you provide to brides that book for you?
I have an online magazine that I’ve created exclusively for my brides! It is full of tips on what to pack, how to prepare for the big day, my favorite sunscreen recommendations, skincare tips, etc.
I also provide tons of beauty tips on my Instagram page!
As a hair and makeup artist, do you have any tips to help prepare for the big day?
The biggest thing is to just try to relax and enjoy the day. That’s my best recommendation!
Aside from that, I’d say to let your creative vendors do their thing. If you’ve done your research (which you obviously have), you’ll hire the best team for your wedding day. So let them work their magic.
I know it’s difficult to relinquish control and just surrender to the day. You want things to be super perfect and look like your Pinterest board… but ease up on some control there.
Allow for the natural flow to happen between you and your vendors. Your vendors have all typically worked together in the past, so they know what they’re doing. Let them run through their artistic process. They’ll do an amazing job!
As far as beauty tips:
- Get lots of sleep the night before your wedding. Rest is important!
- Ease up on the alcohol the day before the wedding. It will cause bloating and will dehydrate the skin. It can also cause redness, dryness, and flaking which you want to avoid if possible.
- Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water and fresh juice the day before and the day of the wedding.
- Wear a strapless bathing suit to minimize tan lines
- Wear a hat to avoid burning on your face.
- Use lots of sunscreen!!!

Anything else you’d like our couples to know?
Here are a few things that I’d recommend!
- Add wedding video if it’s in your budget. The day goes by so fast! Seriously. It goes by sooooo fast! And it’s one thing to have beautiful wedding photos, but to actually see the memories and moments captured on video, that is really special.
- Book a trash the dress session! Use the glorious backdrops of Punta Cana as much as you can. The Dominican Republic is such a beautiful country. There’s so much to photograph! Why not take advantage of that and capture beautiful memories with your partner while you’re here?
- Oh, and don’t forget to have fun!
